Module 24: Body Parts (Ang Katawan) and Giving Reasons Part 2
written by Amy C. Peria & Precious Arao
Background
This module is designed for high school students. However, it can be modified to teach college/university students.
This module is a continuation of Module 22: Body Parts (Ang Katawan) and Giving Reasons. In module 22, the students learned the body parts and health related adjectives and verbs, which they used to create a dialogue that took place at a doctor’s visit.
This module will add on to that knowledge and teach the students how to give excuses in other settings including telling a teacher why they are missing class.

As a listening comprehension practice, have one student read their sentences and another student restate their understanding of the sentences. Help students restate their answers to the following questions: Question: Bakit hindi siya makakapunta sa party? (Why is he/she not going?) Hindi siya makakapunta sa party kasi . Question: Ano ang nangyari? (What happened?) i.e. nauntog siya Kailan ito nangyari? (When did it happen?) |

Culminating Activity
In this activity, the students will practice explaining briefly about why they are unable to come to class based on a physical excuse.
1. Assign different body parts to each student or have them draw from a raffle. It is up to them to create an excuse as to why they are unable to come to class. 2. Ask students, bakit hindi ka pupunta sa klase? (Why are you not going to class?) As practice, the students must create an excuse based on their assigned body part. Students are free to write down their script. However, the students must record themselves and submit the recordings of them speaking. Alternatively, students can read it out loud in class. |
Requirements:
(1) Greeting - Magandang __________ po. (2) Who are you? - Ako po si ________________. (3) What happened? (use past tense or present tense: may lagnat, nauntog) - kasi ___________. Enrichment Activity
Speaking Exercise
Divide the students into three groups. Ideally, 3-4 people in one group. The groups will have to pick their own roles based on the scenario. Have each group create a dialogue based on the following:
The students should share their answers to these after each group as a way to help them practice their listening comprehension skills.
- Your name is Michael Andrada. You want to see Dr. Arboleda. You have a toothache. The nurse asks if you are available tomorrow at 3pm for an appointment.
- Your name is Cecilia Orosa. You want to see Olado. You have a migraine. Your nurse asks if you can wait an hour to see the doctor.
- Your name is Kayla. You are feeling nauseous. You want to see Dr. Crooks. The receptionist tells you all appointments are full in this clinic but suggests you go to the other clinic this afternoon.
- Ano ang pangalan ng pasyente at doktor?
- Anong nangyari sa pasyente? (What happened to the patient?)
- Kailan ang appointment ng pasyente sa doktor? (When is the patient’s doctor’s appointment?)
The students should share their answers to these after each group as a way to help them practice their listening comprehension skills.
